Back to Play Update

As many of you will have seen, Football Manitoba have reopened the registration portal for their flag football program. After several months of uncertainty this is a welcome development in the process of getting us back on the field.

The club is currently working with Football Manitoba and the Manitoba Minor Football Association to come up with a “Return to Play” policy that would allow us to offer skills-based/position training camps and 1st Down programs for the Raiders community. We are also looking at ways in which we can start moving towards playing tackle football, although due to the necessary close proximity of players, this may prove a bit more of a challenge.

Once we have a clear path forward and registration is open for our various programs we’ll be posting here and through our various social media platforms.

Gavin Don – President

Message From Football Canada

On behalf of our football nation, we would like to express our most sincere gratitude to the front-line and essential workers across Canada. Their commitment and courage in the face of daily adversity is a testament to the strength of our communities.

A ‘Return to football’ is something our Members, stakeholders, partners, local associations, volunteers and fans anticipate as an annual calling.

In 2020 the return is facing challenges on many fronts due to the Coronavirus pandemic which will demand a thoughtful strategy.

2020 – Spring Flag Football

Fancy trying something different. This year for the first time the Eastman Raiders in association with Football Manitoba are bringing flag football to the Eastman area. The program is open to all players aged 7-18. This is an ideal introduction to football for those who have never played before and a great way for our tackle players to get in some additional game time before tackle season.

For the program to be a success, as always we’ll need volunteer coaches. Details on how to become a coach will be posted soon and we’ll provide all the necessary training.

Also, we’ll require some referees. If you’ve ever fancied donning the black and white strips and earning some extra pocket change then we’ll be posting more information soon. In the meantime head over to the Football Manitoba website for more information.

As this is a Football Manitoba program and not an MMFA program, the usual catchment areas are not in effect, meaning anyone can come and join the fun in Steinbach.

Flag Football Comes to Ecole Ste Anne Immersion

Earlier today Bill Johnson of Football Manitoba and I had the privilege of providing some flag equipment to the PE department at Ecole Ste Anne Immersion. This joint initiative between the Eastman Raiders and Football Manitoba aims to see flag football taught as part of the PE curriculum at the school, in the hope that more kids are exposed to football with the hope that they become future Raiders.

1st Down

Now that the 1st Down Program has finished for this year, on behalf of everyone involved with the Eastman Raiders, a huge thank you to all our players that signed up to participate in this season’s 1st Down Program.  It’s always great to see you on the field having so much fun.  Hope to see you all again next year, either in 1st Down or in the Tackle program.

I’d also like to say a huge thank you to all of our volunteer coaches who helped to make the program such a success.

Finally, after 8 years of being involved with the Raiders, our 1st Down Coordinator, Coach Charli, has decided to call time on her involvement with the Raiders.  On behalf of the Board and all of the players you have coached and inspired, thank you.  Don’t be a stranger.
