It was a cool, foggy morning when the Pee Wee Eastman Raiders’ parents drove their athletes to the field. It was an exciting morning because this was it — our first regular season game. Our first game against the newly amalgamated Corydon Comets. So, here’s how it went:
We kicked off and a huge tackle resulted in a fumble recovery as Mason landed on it for good field position. Riley (Tank) provided some serious blocking to gain yards and then, Tyson threw a big block of his own to clear the way for Egan’s 30 yard run for a touchdown (6-0 Raiders). A 1-point convert was run in by Egan – again great work by the O-line. (7-0 Raiders). The defence took to the field and forced a turnover on downs. Adam had a strong run up the middle, Egan got us close to the end zone with a hard run up the right side of the field and then, Adam powered a short plunge over the line and it was another Raiders SCORE!! (13-0 Raiders). The defence stood strong once again with serious pressure by Keone. Isaac and Avery tackled their running back in a big way and Andrew, Keone, Anthony, Morgan and Decker made the D-line look like a wall for the opposing offence. Anthony finished a big tackle, George Dart stood strong for a stop and Parker’s HUGE speed took their running back down to turn over the ball on downs. Dylan W. threw in a block for Mason to get a big 1st down when we needed it the most. Egan followed Riley (Tank) right into the end zone for the quarterback sneak. (19-0 Raiders) A super kick by Nick added the 2-point convert. (21-0 Raiders). Defence took centre stage with some super pressure on the quarterback by Andrew and TB threw in a shoe string tackle to end their march. A completed pass from Egan to Adam gained yards but the ball was turned over to their team. Defence was called on once again and Spencer had a play stopping tackle. In fact the defence was so strong, we pushed them back into the end zone and they were forced to give up the 2-point safety. (23-0 Raiders). The offence got the ball back and a 50-yard run by Mason put 6 more points on the scoreboard. (29-0 Raiders) Nick made the kick for the 2-point convert. YES!! (31-0 Raiders) Anthony had a pounding tackle on the kick off by Tyson. Isaac recovered a fumble and a reception by Reagan plus a few YAC yards and the whistle blew for half time. To start the second half, the Comets kicked off and a great catch and hold by Tyson started it off. A completed pass to Austin gained yards for us. Defence got into the action and Lennox lowered his shoulder for a punishing tackle. The Comets’ offence came together a little better in the second half and they eventually found the end zone for a score (31-6 Raiders). The single point convert was successful on their part as well. (31-7 Raiders) After that, George Dart dove for a touchdown-saving tackle. Andrew, TB and Morgan were in on a big tackle and Mason fought for a timely 1st down to keep our drive alive. A great reverse play and super blocking opened up a 35 yard run for Mason. Huge defence stopped their powerful #98 and Nick’s huge tackle on a pass reception by them gave the ball back to OUR offence. To end the game, they were marching toward our end zone and George flew to push their runner out of bounds stopping any chance they had to score.Final score, Pee Wee Eastman Raiders 31 Corydon Comets 7.Well done boys!!
