Lucky again with the weather – the sun was shining and even though the parents were a little chilly in the shade… everyone was thankful for the day it turned out to be. It had been quite awhile since our boys played a game… and they were ready to go.

Once the offence got started, Brad took the ball for a 1^st down. That was followed by a hard run by Keone and a tough gain of yards by Tristan. Not quite enough and the defense was called on. Great defense forced a punt by them. Keone found some room for a massive run. We got close but penalties stopped us just short and the field goal attempt was just wide. Defense went back to work… and it DID work! Isaac’s interception got us in scoring position once again. A couple of 1^st downs was all we could muster and the Nomads had the ball. A big tackle on their #8 and amazing hustle by Riley as he recovered the fumble resulted in great field position. We couldn’t capitalize and the defense stood their ground again. Riley and Andrews combined on a big tackle, great coverage on the pass by TB and the ball was back to us! Offence did some marching and took some time off of the clock and then defense went back to work. TB and Teg combined on a big stop on short yards and great coverage on the pass. The Nomads were knocking on the door but defense stopped them in their tracks. After the 1^st half you could tell it had been a defensive battle – Raiders 0 Nomads 0.

The 2^nd half did not start in our favour – their #5 broke away and found the end zone quickly. (0 Raiders 6 Nomads) Their kick was good. (0 Raiders 8 Nomads). Offence had some trouble and turned the ball over on downs. One big throw by them to #8 = touchdown Nomads. (0 Raiders 14 Nomads) Another good Nomads’ kick. (0 Raiders 16 Nomads) This seemed to wake the offence up and a big run by Keone was followed by a pass from TK to Dawson for a 1^st down. Dylan K. had a sweet run up the sidelines. The offence marched right down to their end. Keone was in for a touchdown but a penalty brought it back… good thing Dawson found the end zone on the very next play – TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS! (6 Raiders 16 Nomads) Teg’s kick was good. (8 Raiders 16 Nomads) Defense was busy right away. Avery threw in a tackle, Colby was displaying great coverage all game but #8 turned on the jets, broke a few tackles and didn’t stop till he scored. (8 Raiders 22 Nomads) And here comes the best part – the boys NEVER GAVE UP. Offence made stuff happen – a great pass and completion from TK to Lennox for a 30 yard gain, then, another 1^st down run by Keone and when they got the ball back the defense was fired up. So much so they got us the ball back. Offence did some moving and a long pass was just incomplete – defense returned to the field. Egan stood his ground against the run and defense turned the ball over on downs. A 15 yard toss from Keone to Lennox and a great attempt for a longer pass to Paxton – but the incompletion saw the ball go back to the Nomads. Our defense made quick work of that and a group tackle stopped their run and drove them back for a loss. The offence’s last chance to finish the game strong was met with success. Keone dropped back to pass but when he saw no one open he ran for a 1^st down himself and the very next play was a beautiful pass from Keone to Lennox in the end zone!! TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS!! (14 Raiders 22 Nomads)

Congratulations Raiders!! A game well played… a battle well fought… so much heart was put into it and you NEVER GAVE UP!! What a great finish by a group of guys who know how to give it their all. Another step to being a better team and we are proud of you! GO RAIDERS GO!!

7:00 PM AT NOMADS FIELD

It was a beautiful night. 20 young men were on the Eastman Raiders’ game sheet. They played every and any position they were called on to play. They were ready for a battle.

The game began with a big run by the Nomads. Guns got in the way of their quarterback and stopped him in his tracks. We couldn’t stop the next charge though – touchdown Nomads (Raiders 0 Nomads 6) The kick was good. (Raiders 0 Nomads 8) A 30 yard kick return by Tyson B. We intercepted and the ball was ours. When defence got another turn, Kevin threw in a great tackle, while Tristan, TB and Dylan K. combined for a big tackle. A huge grab by Riley to stop the run short. A quarterback sack by Egan S. forced the punt – Raiders’ ball! No points on that possession for us and defence kept battling. A quarterback sack by Andrew, Tyson B. hung on for a tackle and super defense by Decker S. as he deflected the ball and their pass was incomplete. Offence went back to work and a pitch from Tyson K to Dawson resulted in a 1^st down. A big push by offence but they fell inches short of the 1^st down. When defense was back in action, Tyson B. tackled them for a loss of yards. Ball back to Raiders and a 30 yard run by Dawson off a completed pass from Tyson K. But the battle took a hit when their #8 broke through the middle and it resulted in a touchdown for the Nomads. (Raiders 0 Nomads 16)

An interception by Tristan – Wow!! A 25 yard run after the catch – what a great way to get the ball back to the Raiders! The offence marched for a bit but when the ball went back to the Nomads, #8 found his way through us again and ran 65 yards to the end zone. (Raiders 0 Nomads 22) A great possession to end the first half saw a 40 yard pass from Keone to Paxton and then, a completed 30 yard pass on the very next play – again to Paxton – TOUCHDOWN!! (Raiders 6 Nomads 16)

The second half started at Pozniak stepped up as the snapper and did a great job! And then, it seemed Keone came to life!! A huge push by Keone – 1^st down! Another huge run by Keone – 1^st down AGAIN! TK to TB – complete! 3^rd and short the Nomads were offside – another 1^st down for us! Topped off by a 20 yard throw from TK to TB – TOUCHDOWN!!

The defense caused another Nomads fumble and we had the ball. Dawson ran for a 1^st down. Keone powered through = 1^st down! A super tackle and fumble recovery yet again – OUR ball! Keone just kept pumping out the 1^st down runs… and then… the ambulance break.

After the stoppage in play the ambulance finally made it’s way off the field and we followed up the break with good energy. Fight by Keone and a big run by Dawson – 1^st down. They got the ball back and their quarterback paid for it as Keone and Riley combined for a HUGE QB sack. Defense fought hard at the end but they found the end zone one more time in the last 3 minutes of the game. Final score = Raiders 14 Nomads 28.

What a MASSIVE improvement over last game boys!! The passion that the coaches are pouring into you finally came out. That’s what it has to be every practice and every game… that is our only ticket to finding a win! Let’s stay tough and work hard boys!! We are only going to get better and better but only if we push ourselves, commit and believe that we can! GO RAIDERS GO!

So, this write- up will be shorter than usual. Not because we lost 30-0 but because the note taker was also assistant coaching that day. It was certainly not our best outing. In fact, the passion and true effort that is a MUST was missing on this particular Sunday.

But here’s the deal… sometimes when you reach the bottom… that’s the only time you start clawing your way back up.

Let’s go from here boys and make sure in every practice and every game this never happens again. Tough losses aren’t the end of the world… they’re often the beginning of the best that’s yet to come.

Eastman Raiders 8 vs Portage Pitbulls 26

On the wettest and windiest day I think I’ve ever watched a football game… there we were. Ready to take on Portage. It was more of a battle than the score would indicate and here were some of the highlights along the way.

Dawson started the game off with a great 1^st down run. Tyson K. carried the ball for 2 yards – good for a first down. Dawson had a couple of great runs for first downs and from the 1 yard line, Keone punched it in. (Raiders 6 – Portage 0). Even in the pouring rain the snap from Paxton was right on the money, hold was good by Tyson and the kick by Teg split the uprights. (Raiders 8 – Portage 0). GREAT start!!

On the kick off – great tackle by Teg Peters. Great pressure by Riley K. for loss of yards. Tyson B. wrapped up the runner forcing a 3^rd down. Some slippery running by them and they found the end zone. The kick was also good. (Raiders 8 – Portage 8)

20 yard kick return by Tyson Bennett. Unfortunately the next play was a Raider fumble and Portage got the ball back. Super diving tackle by Isaac D. to force a turnover on downs. Offence couldn’t find the end zone and the defence went back to work. A great tackle and fumble recovery by Tyson B. and the ball was OURS!

Tyson K. found some room to run… but after the ball was back in Portage’s hands they found our end zone. (Raiders 8 Portage 14) Convert was no good thanks to a blocked kick by Riley K.

Defence improved all game and it was a great call to spy their quarterback ,which we did very well. A group tackle brought them down a bunch of times. The ball back to the Raiders. When defence returned, a huge pressure by Egan S and they lost a lot of yards… the ball came back to us. Riley K. and Avery P. had some fun tackling. Isaac D. put an exclamation mark on that. The ball came back to the offence and Brad V. had a HUGE run up the sidelines… caught only by their #95. 1^st and goal saw us knocking on the door but we couldn’t quite punch it in. Defence was called on again… and the runner broke through a few tackles and got a 95 yard run for a touchdown. (Raiders 8 Portage 20) The convert was blocked once again – no more points.

Brad V. found his legs again and had a huge run for us again. Offence couldn’t quite finish and when Portage got the ball back, they made their possession count as they ran 85 yards for a touchdown. (Raiders 8 Portage 26)

Conclusion on this game: Whoever was brave enough to watch, volunteer, coach and especially play this game in those conditions – ALL HEROES IN MY BOOKS! GO RAIDERS GO!!

Eastman Grey vs Mustangs Red

The game started with what we thought was a touchdown by #7 Kaden Coldwell. Unfortunately it was flagged down.
Soon after #22, Jackson Penner takes the ball over the goal line with a 60 yard run for what was in fact our first touchdown of the game! We missed the convert.
We kick off and the Mustangs attempt a return which got shut down at by #7, Kaden Coldwell that put the ball back at centre field.
#47, Louden King prevents the Mustangs from gaining any field, tackle after tackle.
#22, Jackson Penner, with a hand off from #8, Manfred Klassen creates another beautiful touchdown.
We unfortunately miss our 2 point conversion.
Our kick takes the ball within a short distance of the Mustangs goal line. #47, Louden King, keeps the Mustangs from pushing us back.
A handoff by #8 Manfred Klassen, to #47, Louden King, and then to #48, Jack Leppelmann creates another touchdown for the Raiders!!
A kick made by #35, Troy Vincent and a tackle made by #7, Kaden Coldwell keeps the Mustangs from gaining on us.
Second Half Raiders kick again, made by #48, Jack Leppelmann has the Mustangs running back and stopped again at centre field by #7, Kaden Coldwell and #47, Louden King.
A beautiful tackle made by #63, Oscar Gagnon, keeps the Mustangs from gaining yards.
#22, Jackson Penner and #7 Kaden Coldwell, sack the Mustangs quarterback and move us up field.
#60, Slade Carr, makes a great run as we continue to move up field. A run by #7,Kaden Coldwell moves us even closer.
With it now Mustangs ball, Raiders keep them from moving anywhere and before we know it, the ball is ours once again.
#22, Jackson Penner hands off to #47, Louden King and puts us up within 7 yards of the Mustangs goal line. We lose the ball, the Mustangs make a huge return which is after called back and once again it is our ball.
We ended the game stuck near the 25 yard line. The weather was perfect to keep the team cool and comfortable.
Great job boys! You all played a super game and it’s so nice to see the team working strongly together!!

The Eastman Raiders football club celebrated their 25th anniversary this weekend. Congratulations,Raiders on their first HUGE win of the season against the North Winnipeg Nomads.  Our coaches worked hard all week on defense and they came up big keeping the Nomands offense down to 6 points. Then the Raiders played great all game putting in a great team effort to get the win.

#9 Boston Thiessen scored the opening Touch down making it 6-0 Raiders 6.58 into the game. He then made a second touchdown by running the ball in the end zone making it 12-0 for the Raiders after the First Quarter.

Both #10 Eric Martens and #2 Austin Neufeld ran it in for a touchdown from behind the Nomads 30 yard line. Raiders #88 Zack Neufeld caught the ball thrown by #9 Boston Thiessen. #20 Devin Karlenzig kicks it in for a field goal adding to the Raiders lead.

The defense were big all game keeping the Nomads offense contained. They had some great team tackles and kept the pressure on the offense. Defense #12 Job also had a great interception and ran it down the field later in the Fourth Quarter.

After the game the Raiders also had a medal ceremony where the top players of the game were awarded medals for the great game they played. The Raiders also got a chance to dunk their coaches in the  dunk tank after the game! Thanks to the coaches and everyone who participated and helped in making this day a great on for children and everyone who came out.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 9, 2015 – HOME OPENER
Eastman Bantam Raiders vs Eastside Eagles
10:00 a.m.

It was a beautiful morning for football. Some sun, some clouds and bit of a breeze. We were ready to play some football and so were the Eagles. Here’s how it went.

Avery handled the first kick off with a solid run… and when the Eagles got the ball back a few fancy steps by their #5 helped him find the end zone. (0-6 Eagles) A super completion to Lennox for a big gain and some tough runs by Teg. The defence went back to work. Keaton caught up to #5 for a stop and that was followed by a huge tackle by Riley for a loss of yards! Our defence battled tough and it took a long time for the Eagles to find the end zone again… but… they did. (0-12 Eagles) The D-Line showed great pressure and blocked the kick – keeping the extra points OFF of the score board. Offence was on the field again we saw a sweet pass completion from Keone to Tyson K. On defence, Alex stepped in front of big runner with no fear and TB wrapped up their runner.Great hanging on by Colby to stop #5 and Isaac had some fun tackling #5 as well and it was a turnover on downs for the Raiders! That was followed by some marching by the offence, a big 1st down run by Keone and then, a field goal attempt. The snap and hold were done and the kick was sweet just a bit to the right and all was good, holding them at 12 points for an entire half was a tough fight!

The second half started with a quick drive by the Eastside Eagles and #5 did most of the carrying. (0-18 Eagles) They found the end zone in short order. (0-24 Eagles) After a hit out of bounds and no call, Teg seemed fired up and ran for a big gain. A good drive down the field got us close – but no cigar. The defence took their positions again and a huge push by Riley and down went the runner and a few more in the process. Egan flew through the line and smoked the running back for a loss of yards. Yes defence!! That was followed by a super drive by our offence. Keone ran with everyone on his ack and got a penalty to boot — more yards! We couldn’t punch it in, so, the Eagles’ offence went to work again and, you guessed it, #5 found his way into the end zone again. (0-30 Eagles) Another super block by the D-Line on the convert — no more scores went up for them. Our offence followed with solid drive with runs by Teg and Tyson K. A 1st down by Keone and a huge throw from Keone to Lennox for a big gain was a positive ending to our first outing.

I know the score was not what we were hoping for but now, we will all go back to practice with even more motivation and knowledge of what needs to be done to get better! Keep your chins up boys… grit your teeth a little and push yourselves as hard as you can — only THEN, will we improve. Sunrise is coming up next week and we play them almost as early as that sounds! Well done.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 2015
Eastman Bantam Raiders vs Sunrise Coyotes
9:00 a.m. In Oak Bank

The Raiders had a great start to the game as Keaton ran back the kick off for 20 yards. Teg took the first hand off. Defence got started with Riley totally flattening 2 Coyotes and the tackle was done! A super run on the kick off again. Anthony found his way to a quarterback sack and super pressure by the defensive line caused a fumble and it was Raiders ball! A sweet spin move and run by Keone gained yards and Tyson K snuck for a first down. A 25 yard run by Keone for a BIG 1st down and a 15 yard pass to Lennox – TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS!! (6-0 Raiders) Our kick was a good one, followed by a great tackle by Colby to stop them. A 1st down run by Teg showed us his speed on the outside. Thomas got to show his defensive skills for a bit and had great speed to wrap up their running back. Decker stopped a pass and the offence was back on the field. TB got through the line for a quarterback sack which was met by huge cheers from Raiders’ fans. The Coyotes were forced to kick it away and a 30 yard run on the kick by TB gave our offence great field position. When our defence returned Keaton chased down their big quarterback (#7) to stop the touchdown. Isaac took down the runner in a big way and super pressure by Paxton caused an incomplete pass by them. A fumble recovery by Keone to end the half in the lead!!

The Raiders started with the ball in the second half but couldn’t find positive yards and the Coyotes made it count with their possesssion. Their pass was complete in the end zone (6-6) Their convert kick was also good. (6-8 Coyotes) Their next possession was also good for them… a completed pass, a missed tackle or two and their #85 found the end zone. (6-14 Coyotes) When the Raiders’ offence took over again some fantastic blocking opened a hole for Teg and he broke through the middle for a super gain and a 1st down and then, a Coyotes defender went down and the game was stalled for the ambulance to come for a visit. After a lengthy break, the offence continued to work and another push for Tyson K for a first down. It was a Raiders’ march all the way to the 15 yard line and we just couldn’t push through. Defence got back to work and we just couldn’t catch their #7 as he ran 96 yards for the score. (6-20 Coyotes) The defence did not give up and broke up 2 passing plays… AND blocked the field goal attempt for no score. Defence was quickly called on again and from our own 15 yard line, the Coyotes’ pass found the receiver. (6-28 Coyotes) Super defence ended the game with TB almost intercepting their pass. The boys held them and got a turnover on downs. With only a few minutes left in the game there was a burst of positive yards for the offence. A 20 yard completion from Keone to Tyson K and then a 15 yard run by Teg. Too bad the final whistle blew.

A disappointing loss for sure… but every game we are learning… and every game, we hope that the desire to work even harder next time is getting even more intense. Boys, we have to work harder than ever and we can never stop BELIEVING that better things are to come!! We NEVER GIVE UP!! We need to play with pride and we know you will do all you can in practice to make that happen! We are proud of you ever time you step on the field… just remember that! GO RAIDERS GO!

Raiders kick off to Ft Garry. 1st play Fort Garry runs for a TD. Ensuing Fort Garry kick off #10 Eric Martens returns the kick for a Raiders TD The following kick off the raiders recover the kick and keep the ball. #10 Eric Martens runs for a first down but after a Ft Garry offside penalty the ball is eventually turned over on downs.
Ft Garry makes a first down with a tackle made by #55 Gavin Neufeld . #98 Noah Godlewski and #12 both made tackles on first and 2nd down but Ft. Garry was able to convert the third down for 10 yards and a first down. Then #55 Gavin Neufled tackled the Ft Garry RB behind the line of scrimmage. Followed by a holding penalty on Ft Garry and #64 Aiden Wiebe sacked the QB the ball was turned over on downs to the raiders. After some good runs by #2 Austin Neufled and #10 Eric Martens #9 Boston Thiessen ran it in for a TD. Convert was also made by #10 Eric Martens running in the ball. Score 14-6 for Raiders after first.
The second Quarter started with #12 getting a QB sack but Ft Garry was able to run in for a TD on their 2nd down. They also made a 2 point convert.
On the next Ft Garry kick off #10 Eric Martens made a good catch for a good return. Raiders were able to drive down the field by a couple of good runs by #10 Eric Martens and #9 Boston Thiessen and a couple of offside calls on Ft Garry but eventually they turned the ball over on downs.

On the next Ft Garry drive #55 Gavin Neufled and #98 Noah Godlewski made some great tackles but a complete pass for a 1st down and with a few good runs Ft Garry was able to score a TD plus kick for a 2 point convert.
Next Raider drive #9 Boston Thiessen and #10 Eric Martens both ran for a couple of 1st downs but eventually the ball was turned over on downs. Ft Garry scored another TD on their next drive with a 2 point convert. Raiders were unable to score on their final drive to end the half. Score 30-14 for Ft Garry.
To start the 3rd quarter Ft Garry kicked off to #10 Eric Martens and he returned it for a TD. The Raiders ran in for a 1 point convert and the score was 30-21
After the Raiders kick off Noah Godlewski and Gavin Neufeld made a couple of crucial tackles to hold Ft Garry to a couple of first downs but the Raiders forced the ball to be turned over on downs. From the Ft Garry 40 yard line The Raiders drove down the field by runs from Boston Thiessen and Eric Martens with Eric finishing the drive with a TD. #20 Devon Karlenzig attempted to kick for the convert but the ball was blocked. Score 30-27 for Ft Garry.
On The next Fort Garry Drive #55 Gavin Neufeld, #98 Noah Godlewski and #12 made some good tackles but Ft Garry was able to run for another TD and kick a 2 point convert. The Raiders were able to get that TD back on their next drive but missed the convert.
With 3:40 left in the 3rd quarter lightning started so the game was delayed and after waiting close to a half hour the Thunder storm became so strong that the game was finally cancelled with the final score being 38-33 for Ft Garry.
