Sunday, September 11th

Post Notes – Sunday September 11th.

It was a battle of the defensive squads with both teams holding each other in check through much of the game. Starting with the kickoff by the Eagles which was held in Raiders territory. After holding the Raiders, the Eagles took possession. Raiders 17 managed a great push and tackle behind the line to put the Eagles far back for first down. Raiders 5 spotted the reverse for a great tackle and a turnover to the Raiders. Raiders 13 managed a good run and some field position, but 3 downs was not enough. The Eagles mis-snap on their 20 forced them to punt for field position. Raiders 63 had some big tackles to hold position and Raiders 16 recovered a fumble to give the Raiders offense another try. A pass to Raiders 67 was successful but not enough and it was Eagles ball starting the 2nd quarter. The Eagles managed a breakthrough to score the first TD of the game.

A big tackle by Raiders 5 for gave them the ball on their 35 yard line. The defensive squads took turns holding for multiple turnovers with great work by Raiders 6 and 5. A big sack by 6 put the Raiders in control at their 50 yard line and Raiders 13 run gave them a first down. Raiders 33 runs gave them the yards for another first down and a touchdown near the end of the half. The score at halftime was 7-6 for the Raiders.

The 2nd half started well with a good kick return by the Raiders but a fumble on the reverse handoff turned the ball over to the Eagles. Raiders 57&5&1 held them in place to take the ball. A successful pass to Raiders 8 gave them some good yards. Unfortunately the defensive battle continued. Late in the 4th quarter a high tackle gave the Eagles great position to score one more time and push them over the top. Final score Raiders 7, Eagles 13.

Eastman Bantam Raiders vs Transcona Nationals
Saturday, September 10/16
9:00 a.m.
Raiders’ Field
38 – Eastman Raiders 59 – Transcona Nationals

It was a little cool but the sun was shining and there were a bunch of young men ready to play football. We knew these would be our toughest opponents to date; so we were ready to go.

Well, having said that – it took a little while to warm up and a slow start for us resulted in a touchdown and convert for the Nationals. 0-8. Defence came back with a stop. Next series for Transcona saw their quarterback, #1, keep the ball and he was gone. 0-16. Offence took to the field at our own 30 yard line and after a pass or two and a hard run up each side – touchdown Raiders!! Kick was good. 8-16. Defence came back on with a mission in mind. A huge take down to start the series, stopped #1 on both sides of the field and got the ball back to us!! A good drive followed with some timely blocks got us into good enough field position for a field goal attempt but the ball hit the upright and the bounce did NOT go our way. Defence stepped up again and we had them on the ropes, but that #1 ran left, then right, and then broke away for a huge run to our end zone. 8-22. They missed the extra points. Offence made their next turn count with a super drive – 3 different passes, 3 different ball carriers – done!! Touchdown Raiders!! 14-22. When Transcona got the ball again, #11 took the hand off and found some room. His big long run resulted in a touchdown. 14-28. We blocked the kick for extra points!! Yes!! Unfortunately, the 1st half came to a close with one more good drive by the Nationals’ offence and #1 pushed it in for a touchdown. 14-34 plus 2 = 14-36. But the Raiders were not done yet – they put some pressure on our quarterback but no problem – a pass and touchdown!! 20-36 and the kick was good! 22-36 going into half time.

Offence started off the 2nd half in a BIG way!! Touchdown!! 28-36 again, plus 2 = 30-36. Defense came up with some great stops on short yards but they squeaked in. 30-44. Offence was back on the field and marched right to the end zone!! 36-44 + 2 = 38-44. Once again, defence did their job and got the offence back on the field but an untimely offside call and Transcona found THEIR way to our end zone. 38-50 + 2 = 38-52. Following that, our offence marched well but didn’t quite cross the line, defense got back to work and made a HUGE stop! Offence followed with some sweet passes. Near the end, our defense came up with a big tackle and we stopped them but a bit of a miscue on the punt and one big throw from #1 resulted in one last touchdown for the Nationals. Final score 38-58 for Transcona.

It’s early boys! We learned a lot today! Our guests will be back this Saturday and we will do all we can to be ready to take them on!! GO RAIDERS GO!!!!

Eastman Raiders Crunchers vs Eastside Eagles
Our team came out ready to play fresh off of Practice With the Pros, they seemed inspired.
Raiders kicked off to the Eagles and kept them to a short return, followed by quarterback sack. They showed some great aggression, but the Eagles were able to get a long run for a touch down. The Eagles completed for another touchdown, after the Raiders turned over on downs. The Eagles scored another time, then the ball got loose. Raiders fumble and recovered by Eagles, then Eagles fumble and the Raiders got the ball back but were unable to score again in the first half.
The second half started with a Raiders fumble on the kick off return but they were able to maintain control. The Eagles regained possession on the Raiders second down off of another fumble. Raiders defence made 3 amazing tackles but the Eagles were able to get a TD on the final down of the set with a long run. The Raiders finished the day strong with a fumble recovery, and put together a strong set of downs. On the forth down they put together a nice reverse, that nearly turned into a touch down. The Eagles had one last set of downs to finish the game, but the Raiders defence were aggressive and didn’t let it turn into anything.

Saturday, September 10th

The Raider Peewees took on the Transcona Nationals late Saturday morning under a sunny sky.
The highly entertaining game was a match of successful defensive and offensive plays on both sides of the ball, leading to a score of 18-16 in favour of the Nationals at half-time.
The second half saw the Nationals on top of the Raiders 36-32 with 9 seconds left in the game. The gutsy Raiders ended the nailbiter with a “Milt Stegal’ish” quick toss and 70 yard run to win the game 38-36.
An epic example of never giving up….Way to go Raiders!

Falcons vs. Raiders

Raiders days was the perfect weekend for our first game of the season. Raiders were the definite underdogs with only seven players, and the Falcons with 14. Falcons open with the kick off, Raiders return with a touchdown by number 44. In the second play of the game, Raiders kick and Falcons return with a touchdown. After Falcons kick, Raiders return for a first down. A hand off to number 33 who runs it in for the touchdown Raiders! Raiders fought to keep the lead, and had some great tackles in the first half of the game, but the Falcons got their second touchdown.

Raiders had some good running plays, and attempted a passing play which was incomplete. We ended off the first half with a touchdown for the Raiders.

Raiders kick off the second half; Falcons return and fumble, the Raiders recover the ball. Raiders attempted running play resulted in a turn over for the Falcons. Falcons run the ball and fumble, the Raiders retrieve it. Raiders attempted several more passing plays all of which were incomplete. Falcons did several running plays which ended in a touchdown for the Falcons. Raiders had one successful passing play thrown by number 2 caught by number 12. It was a very evenly matched game, and our team played very hard.

Go Raiders Go!

Sunday, August 21st

The Eastman Raiders Teal visited the Portage la Prairie Pitbulls and started their Sunday matinée with a fierce first quarter that saw a flood of scoring.
The visitors’ first two possessions resulted in major scores. The first, a 56 yard TD run by Raylund Ross, one of a number of scores today by the swift Raiders running back. The second, a 60 yard Raiders run to the one yard line only to be capped off by a Raiders touchdown in the following set of downs, making it 12 – 0.  To round out the first quarter, the Pitbulls and Raiders traded touchdowns with two kick-off returns by the Pitbulls, each followed by the Raiders driving into the end zone.  At the end of the first quarter the Raiders were up, 24 – 14.

Both teams settled into their own for the remainder of the game with each defence trading big plays and offenses trading scoring drives.  The Raiders moved the ball well throughout the second quarter and scored a late TD to go up 30 – 14 at the half.  Halfway through the third quarter, the Raiders made a huge interception bringing the ball back to the Pitbulls 5 yard line. A few plays later the Raiders punched the ball in for another major.

Throughout the fourth quarter the Raiders added a few more scores including a short passing play that resulted in a 90 yard run to the end zone.  The Pitbulls answered with a third kick-off return for a touchdown, while the Raiders responded immediately with a last minute touch down by Skylar Cudney to end off today’s scoring spree.

The final result was Raiders 54, Pitbulls 26

Saturday, August 20th

Raiders kicked off. . . Caught by Rods…returned 5 yards but stopped by defense. On the turn over after giving up 10 yards and a first down the Raiders drove back on the 3 down to our 48 yard line. We lost some yards due to a penalty and fought to bring it back to center.
The Raiders got a break with a turn over followed by a first down then the Rods defense pushed back hard but the Raiders pushed them back for only a 5 yards loss. Our offense was working hard, but the Rod defense got through and made the tackle but we held the ball. Even with a completed pass by the Rods, the Raiders didn’t let them get far and pushed them back to the 35.  We had a fumble on 3rd down, but covered it up preventing a possible denfesive touch down. On the third down with 29 seconds left in the half, the Raiders defense intercepted a pass from the Rods.
Even with that, at the half it was a scoreless game.

Top of the second half Rods made a run but 22 took him out. Bottom of the third and Raiders offense have found their legs.
Top of the fourth had some penalties, but the Raiders offence still drove forward. The Rods made a lateral pass incomplete and the Raiders were there. Even though it couldn’t be a Raiders ball, we covered and then on the next play sacked the ball handler an extra 5 yards behind the original first down. Bottom of the fourth defense stops a pass that could have ended badly for the Raiders.
The game finished with a nil-nil score. Way to play hard Raiders.

Saturday, August 13th

It was a tough start for the Atom Black Raiders vs the Fort Garry Lions today.
For the first quarter they struggled to get out of their own end but neither team was able to score. However the Lions put together a drive at the end of the quarter which resulted in a touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter. The Lions were able to find the end zone 2 more times to make it 22-0 at the half.
The second half greatly improved, the Lions were only able to get one touchdown early on in the third quarter and the Raiders offence was starting to click and finding ways to gain yards, although still not resulting in any scores. In the 4th quarter the defence did an excellent job of stopping the Lions in the the red zone, with a fumble recovery and twice standing them up inside the 10 with several key tackles, 3 of which were quarterback sacks that resulted in significant loss of yards.
The final score was Lions 29, Raiders 0.
