SUNDAY, AUGUST 9, 2015 – HOME OPENER
Eastman Bantam Raiders vs Eastside Eagles
10:00 a.m.

It was a beautiful morning for football. Some sun, some clouds and bit of a breeze. We were ready to play some football and so were the Eagles. Here’s how it went.

Avery handled the first kick off with a solid run… and when the Eagles got the ball back a few fancy steps by their #5 helped him find the end zone. (0-6 Eagles) A super completion to Lennox for a big gain and some tough runs by Teg. The defence went back to work. Keaton caught up to #5 for a stop and that was followed by a huge tackle by Riley for a loss of yards! Our defence battled tough and it took a long time for the Eagles to find the end zone again… but… they did. (0-12 Eagles) The D-Line showed great pressure and blocked the kick – keeping the extra points OFF of the score board. Offence was on the field again we saw a sweet pass completion from Keone to Tyson K. On defence, Alex stepped in front of big runner with no fear and TB wrapped up their runner.Great hanging on by Colby to stop #5 and Isaac had some fun tackling #5 as well and it was a turnover on downs for the Raiders! That was followed by some marching by the offence, a big 1st down run by Keone and then, a field goal attempt. The snap and hold were done and the kick was sweet just a bit to the right and all was good, holding them at 12 points for an entire half was a tough fight!

The second half started with a quick drive by the Eastside Eagles and #5 did most of the carrying. (0-18 Eagles) They found the end zone in short order. (0-24 Eagles) After a hit out of bounds and no call, Teg seemed fired up and ran for a big gain. A good drive down the field got us close – but no cigar. The defence took their positions again and a huge push by Riley and down went the runner and a few more in the process. Egan flew through the line and smoked the running back for a loss of yards. Yes defence!! That was followed by a super drive by our offence. Keone ran with everyone on his ack and got a penalty to boot — more yards! We couldn’t punch it in, so, the Eagles’ offence went to work again and, you guessed it, #5 found his way into the end zone again. (0-30 Eagles) Another super block by the D-Line on the convert — no more scores went up for them. Our offence followed with solid drive with runs by Teg and Tyson K. A 1st down by Keone and a huge throw from Keone to Lennox for a big gain was a positive ending to our first outing.

I know the score was not what we were hoping for but now, we will all go back to practice with even more motivation and knowledge of what needs to be done to get better! Keep your chins up boys… grit your teeth a little and push yourselves as hard as you can — only THEN, will we improve. Sunrise is coming up next week and we play them almost as early as that sounds! Well done.

Eastman Bantam Raiders vs Sunrise Coyotes
9:00 a.m. In Oak Bank

The Raiders had a great start to the game as Keaton ran back the kick off for 20 yards. Teg took the first hand off. Defence got started with Riley totally flattening 2 Coyotes and the tackle was done! A super run on the kick off again. Anthony found his way to a quarterback sack and super pressure by the defensive line caused a fumble and it was Raiders ball! A sweet spin move and run by Keone gained yards and Tyson K snuck for a first down. A 25 yard run by Keone for a BIG 1st down and a 15 yard pass to Lennox – TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS!! (6-0 Raiders) Our kick was a good one, followed by a great tackle by Colby to stop them. A 1st down run by Teg showed us his speed on the outside. Thomas got to show his defensive skills for a bit and had great speed to wrap up their running back. Decker stopped a pass and the offence was back on the field. TB got through the line for a quarterback sack which was met by huge cheers from Raiders’ fans. The Coyotes were forced to kick it away and a 30 yard run on the kick by TB gave our offence great field position. When our defence returned Keaton chased down their big quarterback (#7) to stop the touchdown. Isaac took down the runner in a big way and super pressure by Paxton caused an incomplete pass by them. A fumble recovery by Keone to end the half in the lead!!

The Raiders started with the ball in the second half but couldn’t find positive yards and the Coyotes made it count with their possesssion. Their pass was complete in the end zone (6-6) Their convert kick was also good. (6-8 Coyotes) Their next possession was also good for them… a completed pass, a missed tackle or two and their #85 found the end zone. (6-14 Coyotes) When the Raiders’ offence took over again some fantastic blocking opened a hole for Teg and he broke through the middle for a super gain and a 1st down and then, a Coyotes defender went down and the game was stalled for the ambulance to come for a visit. After a lengthy break, the offence continued to work and another push for Tyson K for a first down. It was a Raiders’ march all the way to the 15 yard line and we just couldn’t push through. Defence got back to work and we just couldn’t catch their #7 as he ran 96 yards for the score. (6-20 Coyotes) The defence did not give up and broke up 2 passing plays… AND blocked the field goal attempt for no score. Defence was quickly called on again and from our own 15 yard line, the Coyotes’ pass found the receiver. (6-28 Coyotes) Super defence ended the game with TB almost intercepting their pass. The boys held them and got a turnover on downs. With only a few minutes left in the game there was a burst of positive yards for the offence. A 20 yard completion from Keone to Tyson K and then a 15 yard run by Teg. Too bad the final whistle blew.

A disappointing loss for sure… but every game we are learning… and every game, we hope that the desire to work even harder next time is getting even more intense. Boys, we have to work harder than ever and we can never stop BELIEVING that better things are to come!! We NEVER GIVE UP!! We need to play with pride and we know you will do all you can in practice to make that happen! We are proud of you ever time you step on the field… just remember that! GO RAIDERS GO!

Eastman Raiders vs
St. Vital Mustangs 5:30 pm

Small team of 6 boys today!
HOT HOT HOT day!!
#63, Oscar Gagnon and #8, Manfred Klassen did a great job getting our team up the field, which ultimately lead to a 10 yard run by #8, Manfred Klassen, for our one and only touchdown of the game!
Great defence plays were made by #48, Jack Leppelmann and #60, Slade Carr.
My goodness, the heat is extreme! Our trainers did a fantastic job keeping our Raiders cool and hydrated!
I’d like to acknowledge also, #22, Jackson Penner, recovering from a pre-season injury, who is always at the practices and the games to cheer on his team every step of the way! It’s great to see!!
The team did an amazing job, with only 6 of them playing and in the heat.
Keep up the great teamwork boys!!
Go Raiders!!

Aug 15 2015

The game started with the captains meeting the refs. and the opposition to decide who would get the starting kick off. We were on the receiving end of the kick off which was picked up by Gavin at our 50 yard line. We loss possession at the centre line and then our defense took over. Our defense and Job did an awesome job tackling, but the Rods managed to get through and score within the first 3 minutes with a 55 yard run. The Raiders answered back with some fancy footwork from Noah and then a touchdown run by Zachery. At the end of the first quarter the Rods were leading 14-6. The Raiders kept working hard the try and close the lead; they had a great tackle of the Rods quarterback by Austin and Gavin also got an amazing tackle of the quarterback later in the second quarter. We were fortunate that our guys have listen to our great coaches as a fumble by the Rods was immediately covered up by Gavin giving us a chance to try and score, but we came up just short. Just prior to the end of the second quarter, we had several beautiful tackles by Austin and some great running from Eric, which resulted in our second touchdown of the morning. In the second half we did some switching up and moved Devon unto the defensive line which gave him some fun tackling the Rods. We also realized that we needed a few runners on our defensive line so we also moved Noah over; he along with Austin got in a few excellent double tackles. We had a nice intercept of a Rods pass by Kayden. In the last part of the third quarter we had Boston get us down the field with a 30 yard run and then had Eric take it the rest of the way for a 45 yard run to make our third touchdown. We fought hard on our offensive line even seeing some of our small players like Sean just picked up and tossed aside but as coach said “we get back up” and that is what they did. With that mentality, they managed to do some beautiful team work and Eric scored our final touchdown brining our score to 25. We then had under a minute to go when Gavin intercepted a pass, but alas time was up.

Pee Wee vs. Eastside Eagles – October 25

It was a windier day than some of us expected, but we were well dressed, well prepared and ready to go. That’s the parents — the boys were COMPLETELY prepared and weren’t worried about the wind at all — they were ready to play!! And here’s how it went.

Their #5 kicked the ball to start the game and we were off. A long throw and super catch by Peyton resulted in a big gain. When the defence got on to the field for the first time — you could tell they were ready. We started the game with an awesome stop, caused a fumble and the ball was already back to us! Unfortunately we returned the favor and they got the ball back close to our end zone. After many tries, they finally found the end zone and scored. (Raiders 0 Eagles 6) A blocked kick by Paxton and we shut down the extra points! An awesome run back by TB granted super field position to our offence. A sweet toss and run from Sawyer to Teg and it was TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS!! (Raiders 6 Eagles 6) A routine snap, hold and kick — and 2 more were ours. (Raiders 8 Eagles 6) A big stop by our defence and after a punt by them a huge run by TB and the offence was back on the field. A push by us secured the 1st down and then, a big throw up the left side, Sawyer to Peyton, and it was another touchdown for the Raiders! (Raiders 14 Eagles 6) A sweet spiralling snap, quick hands on the hold and a solid kick through the uprights and we added 2 points. (Raiders 16 Eagles 6). Defence went back to work and was huge. A big stop near our end zone and offence was back to work. The Eagles got the ball back but a fumble and recovery by us gave us another chance!! We couldn’t quite capitalize on that one and when they got the ball back their quarterback found his way around and finally into the end zone. (Raiders 16 Eagles 12) Their attempt for a single point convert was unsuccessful as we stopped them in their tracks.

The second half began and the defense held strong. Great coverage and an incomplete pass by the Eagles and ball was back to the Raiders. Offence took their turn and then, defence was called upon again. #5 got away this time and found the end zone to help the Eagles pull ahead. (Raiders 16 Eagles 18)Their convert was NOT good and offence got back to work. When defence’s turn came up again they were a wall and the Eagles got nowhere. Offence took their turn on the field and then, when defence came back they stood strong but eventually big #4 found the end zone. (Raiders 16 Eagles 24) #5 took a quick run in for the 1 point convert. (Raiders 16 Eagles 25) The defence held them for a few more series but in the end they punched one more in. (Raiders 16 Eagles 31) And the 1 point convert was good. (Raiders 16 Eagles 32)

So… that’s it… for the season that is. That’s it for the games we will play in 2014. But that’s NOT it for the memories that have been made, the great friends that have been made, and the lessons learned along the way. That’s NOT it for the benefits that dry-land training had on our boys, the commitment that’s been instilled in each one of them and the “family” that we have all become. I know that losing is not fun… and I know that our goal was to win… but we gave it our all. If we hadn’t given it our all — we wouldn’t really be all that disappointed. But BECAUSE we gave it our all — we are also not devastated. We do not have to wonder “What if…”. We are proud of our boys — on both sides of the ball. On this day, a win was not meant to be — but a season like we had, WAS meant to be, and we did it together!! It’s part of our journey in life and it has made us all better than we were before.

Thank you to our faithful and committed coaches for taking our boys to another level. Thank you for your commitment not only on the field but off the field as well. Thank you for all of the preparation and knowledge you shared with our boys to help them be the best that they can be. Our boys look up to

each one of you and you have led them so well.

Boys… from us, parents to you. Thank you for entertaining us. Thank you for amazing us with your courage, your abilities, your improvement, your commitment and your perseverance. You all stayed out in the rain at practice when we could run to our cars. You played in the cold while we were wrapped in winter parkas and blankets. And you respectfully played your game with good attitudes and a team spirit. In life, we win together and we lose together — and this season we learned a little more about that. Hold your heads high and I sure hope this just might motivate you to come back and see what you can do — next season!!
